Superstitious tribes who wander steppes and desert regions, living in tents or temporary huts. Demeanour depends on the tribe: some are warlike, others peaceful.

Special Abilities

Mounted: On riding horses or (in the desert) on camels.
Arms (desert): 50% of group have: leather armour, shield, lance; 30% have: chainmail, shield, lance; 20% have: leather armour, shortbow.
Arms (steppes): 50% of group have: leather armour, shortbow; 20% have: leather armour, shield, lance; 20% have: chainmail, shortbow; 10% have: chainmail, shield, lance, and may be mounted on a war horse.
Camps: Hunting / foraging groups commonly combine and live in a tribe of up to 300 nomad warriors.
Hoard: Only have treasure type A in the camp.
Traders: Often carry trade route tales of faraway lands.

Variants

Leader (2nd level) (for every 25 nomads)

For every 25 nomads, there is a 2nd level fighter.

Leader (4th level) (for every 40 nomads)

For every 40 nomads, there is a 4th level fighter.

Camp leaders: Tribal chief (in camp)

Tribal chief (8th level fighter), plus a 5th level fighter for every 100 nomads. 50% chance of a cleric (9th level); 25% chance of a magic-user (8th level).

Nomads are mounted clans that live on steppes, plains or in desert climes. They live by hunting and gathering and are closely tied to their native climate. Due to their closeness with their surroundings, they surprise on 1-4.

Irrespective of the above, there will always be (2) 3rd level clerics and (1) 4th level magic user present.

Nomads will always be mounted on either light or medium warhorses.

Variants

Leader (under 150 nomads) (if under 150 nomads)

If under 150 nomads: (1) 8th level fighter, (1) 6th level fighter, and 12 guards (2nd level fighters)

Leader (150-250 nomads) (between 150-250 nomads)

Between 150-250 nomads: (1) 9th level fighter, (1) 7th level fighter, and guards (2nd level fighters)

Leader (over 250 nomads) (over 250 nomads)

Over 250 nomads: (1) 10th level fighter, (1) 8th level fighter, and guards (2nd level fighters)

Cleric (15% chance per 50 nomads)

There is a 15% chance per 50 nomads that a cleric will be present. The cleric will be of 4th to 7th level (determined by 1d4).

Magic User (15% chance per 50 nomads)

There is also a 15% chance per 50 nomads that a magic user (of 5th to 8th level, also determined by 1d4) will be present.

Standard Clerics (always present)

There will always be (2) 3rd level clerics present.

Standard Magic User (always present)

There will always be (1) 4th level magic user present.
